XBMC is a cross platform open source media centre software. The next release will add a unified PVR font-end allowing you to use a number of different PVR applications and even run it over a local network.
The PVR functionality will allow you to view, record and playback TV shows from your HTPC from within the XBMC interface (if you have a TV tuner card).
